Brick/Blocklaying

Bricklaying/Blocklaying is a long honoured trade which has stood the test of time since the 17th Century and created many of the world’s greatest buildings. Bricklayers/Blocklayers lay bricks, pre-cut stone, concrete blocks and other types of building blocks in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures.

Requirements for completion of the qualification

To obtain this qualification all TWENTY ONE (21) core competency units and SIX (6) elective competency units are to be completed.

Up to one unit may come from Certificate II, Certificate III or Certificate IV level from this, or any other Training Package.

Concreting

Concretors place, spread, compact, finish and cure concrete for buildings, roads, tunnels, bridges and marine structures, using hand tools, vibrators, pumps, trowelling machinery and other power tools. Concretors may specialise as concrete finishers or concrete slab layers. There are considerable differences in the work done by concretors working on either high-rise buildings or smaller residential and commercial buildings.

CPC30308 Certificate III in Concreting

Requirements for completion of the qualification

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:

  • 18 units of competency:
    • 13 core units
    • 5 elective units.

A minimum of three elective units are to be concreting (coded 'CO') units. A maximum of two of the five required elective units may be substituted by selecting relevant units of competency from any Certificate III or IV construction qualification or qualification in another endorsed Training Package.

Knowledge of residential construction and remodelling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety.

CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry

This qualification provides a trade outcome in carpentry, covering work in residential and commercial applications.

Requirements for completion of the qualification

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as a specialist field of work.

The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.
