Certificate III in Civil Construction

Road Construction and Maintenance

Road construction and maintenance workers operate specialised plant and machinery, compact, level and spread materials to form roads and footpaths, perform minor repairs to damaged surfaces, maintain bridges, repair signs and guideposts, and undertake general roadside maintenance.

Requirements for completion of the qualification

The following table provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.

Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:

sixteen (16) mandatory units, and
nine (9) elective units of which:
- at least eight (8) must come from the electives listed below, including at least four (4) at AQF 3 level
- at least four (4) must be road construction (CRC) units including at least two (2) at Certificate III level
- up to one (1) unit may come from Certificate II, Certificate III or Certificate IV level from this, or any other Training Package

Units chosen must be relevant to the job function.

Care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified within imported units, or units chosen as electives, are complied with.

Bridge Construction and Maintenance

Bridge Constructors build and repair bridges of all types. Structures that are built today can vary from steel to large poured concrete structures. Bridge Constructors work with a variety of construction materials including concrete, steel and timber.

Requirements for completion of the qualification

The following table provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.

Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:

fifteen (15) mandatory units, and
ten (10) elective units of which:
- at least nine (9) must come from the electives listed below including at least two (2) bridge maintenance (CBM3) units at Certificate III level
- up to one (1) unit may come from Certificate II, Certificate III or Certificate IV level from this, or any other Training Package

Pipe Laying

Pipelaying workers operate specialised plant and machinery, compact, level and spread materials, excavate and install underground pipe works for water, gas, sewerage, telecommunication etc. They also undertake general pipe works maintenance.

Requirements for completion of the qualification

The following table provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.

Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:

seventeen (17) mandatory units, and
eight (8) elective units of which:
at least seven (7) must come from the electives listed below including at least four (4) at Certificate III level of which at least one (1) marked *
up to one (1) unit may come from Certificate II, Certificate III or Certificate IV level from this, or any other Training Package
